Apparently it's for a movie role and it's temporary, but I must say I am in love with her new hair color! It's such a nice change. It's great to see her looking a bit different. Hollywood has too many blondes anyway. ;)

I know, I am the most inconsistent blogger out there, but oh well... I've been pretty busy with life and work, but now It's time for one of my (ir)regular posts.

Amanda is 21 and is from Scotland. I first "discovered" her because she is dating- and has been for a few years now- Oliver Sykes, the vocalist from Bring the Horizon, which I reaallly like.
I think she is super stunning, a great model and I love her personal style. She has everything to be just another cookie-cutter model, but she wisely pairs her girly look with a more rocker chick one, which gives her an edge.

Hello girls!

Long time, no see. Blame work!
As you may or may not know I have a job where I work with children and teens at a journalism workshop @ Diário de Notícias at Avenida da Liberdade, Lisbon. Then, I have a freelancer job as a book editor and up until today I also am a freelancer journalist for two online magazines.
However, I decided I can't do everything. I have to let one of the jobs go and I'll have to quit the last one, I suppose. On a positive note, another book publishing company has shown interest in my work and will send me my first piece of work as soon as possible. :)

Life is good right now, I can't really complain. I'm making my own money, have a lot of (good) friends, a great boyfriend and now I also have something I've wanted for a long time... A TAN!

For those who don't know me, I am very light-skinned and often look very pale, especially on Winter, which was really annoying me, since I couldn't find a right shade of foundation; they all looked too dark for me.
Now- since last Wednesday- I have been using a self-tanner for my body and my face and I look and feel much better. I look a lot healthier, my skin is glowing (without looking orange) and I feel a lot more confident.

I'm loving my new tan. :D

2010 became the year that having a gap between your two front teeth - or a diastema, which is the proper term- became in vogue, literally.
I personally love a modest gap between the front teeth and seeing these photos almost makes me wish I had one. Ahah. I remember when I was in elementary school, I had a friend that wore braces to correct her gap. I always thought she look super cute with it.

I love it that the fashion industry is embracing these sort of things that make people look unique and not like everybody else. Strangely, the fashion industry is demanding an imperfect, quirky kind of beauty; seemingly models with freckles, big, frizzy hair, fair skin, and now the gaping look.

Long time no see, huh?
Yes, indeed... I feel really bad for not updating for such a long time, but the truth is that I have been very, very busy (which is very good, in case you were wondering).
I can tell you that life is treating me very well and that I'm happier than ever! :D

I completed my master's degree and wrote a thesis on the impact of media and the images of women protrayed in the media plus the effects they have on our society and women. It's a very controversial theme that got me thinking about a lot of things related to beauty and health and also put me in the mood to resume my writing on this blog all over again.

Whether we admit it or not, most of us persue the idea of beauty in a myriad of ways. I'm coming clean: beauty is very important to me. Not only does it feel nice to look good, but, to be honest, a good presentation can get you very far. It's no use being incredibly smart if you look sloppy and like you don't care what you look like. When I say this I'm obviously thinking about job interviews. Looks and personality alone can get you very far if you don't have any or little experience. Many people are not going to like this, but it's true. I've seen how it works, I see it everyday.
Well, there's nothing wrong with trying to look our best, so I'm officially resuming this blogues original task: to give advice on all things beauty, music, lifestyle, etc.

A rapariga tem 16 anos e, quem olha para estas imagens tem que ter isso em mente. É uma idade em que a maioria tem necessidade de se revoltar contra a sociedade, contra os pais, as normas estabelecidas, a escola, enfim, tudo aquilo que é controlado e regrado. Por outro lado, é uma idade, na minha opinião, em que é tudo menos apropriado alguém se vestir como uma prostituta barata. Porra, a miúda tem uns saldos de stripper a dizer claramente tips (=gorjetas, para quem não sabe).

Para mim tanto me faz ela ter 16, 26 ou 36. Só queria que ela tivesse noção do ridículo. Só isso. Ela achas que por ter uma banda tem que ser toda durona e assumo essa bela imagem. Querida, it's been seen a thousand times before. Courtney Love has been around for a long time now. Give it up.

Enquanto limpo o meu pc aqui no estágio, deparo-me um uma pasta repleta de imagens, na sua maioria fotos de moda que eu vou encontrando pela net e, por algum motivo, decido guardar.

Durante as horas de trabalho é-me impossível passar a totalidade do tempo a vá, pronto, trabalhar; de vez em quando preciso de umas pausas, de umas distracções.

Esta foto, na qual aparece uma Maria Sharapova com um equipamento desses das tenistas que são maravilhosos e me dão imensa pena de já não jogar ténis. You see, eu era federada e tudo. Adorava o ténis.

E onde é que está a fashion confession? Pois bem. Sabem porque é que decidi, aos 9 anos, ir para o ténis? Por causa das roupas. Aconteceu numa tarde em casa dos meus tios enquanto via uma partida de ténis na tv (que só tinha os 4 canais). Foi uma decisão espontânea, mas nem por isso má.

São modelitos como o da Maria que despertaram a minha paixão por este desporto. E então? Digam lá que não é giro. :)

Ontem foi o meu aniversário. You know, um evento importantissimo que acontece apenas uma vez por ano. Foi um dia lindo e mágico, que coincidiu (apenas coincidiu, nem foi de propósito nem nada) com uma merecida folga do estágio.

Bem, no dia anterior lancei-me às compras. Com o moneyzinho dos aos fui abastecer-me de maquilhagem nova. É uma coisa que uso todos os dias, a minha já estava a acabar, não tenho batons de jeito, porque não?
De tudo o que comprei tenho que recomendar uma item em especial. Porque sou amiguinha.

Behold! O Artdeco volume lip care! Para além de ser super hidrantante para os lábios e de ter um agradável aroma a baunilha, dá um volume extra. Para dizer a verdade, eu estava bastante céptica quando a este último feito, mas confesso-me rendida. Apliquei-o, formei um pensamento de "oh, aposto que isto não aumenta coisa nenhuma". Wrong. Aumenta. Não fico nenhuma aberração, apenas preenche os lábios de forma a parecerem mais volumosos. Não que eu precise, mas pronto, uma pessoa quer sempre mais. ;)

É assim o Kick-Ass. Ou Dave Lizewski, um estudante de liceu americano, despercebido, tímido e um grande fã de banda desenhada. Num belo dia, Dave questiona-se: como é que nunca ninguém tentou ser um super-herói na vida real?
E é daqui que parte para a aventura. Tudo começa com esta interrogação e com a compra de um fato verde no ebay. Ao lutar contra um grupo de criminosos na rua, Dave é filmado por um transeunte. Aqui assume-se como Kick-Ass. A partir daí, cria um perfil no Myspace, onde milhares de adolescentes lhe pedem ajuda. O único problema é que não tem quaisquer poderes; só boas intenções.
Entretanto conhece outros (supostos) super-heróis com- digamos assim- mais perícia. Big Daddy, a sua filha Hit Girl, uma inconvencional rapariga de 11 anos com um vocabulário obsceno, que luta como uma assassina profissional, e Red Mist, que decide juntar-se a Kick-Ass na luta contra o crime.
Qual Batman, qual Super-Homem qual quê, este é um filme para quem, como eu, não acha piada nenhuma a super-heróis. Há vários momentos de comédia para fazer rir e descomprimir. A violência também faz parte do filme, mas não é, em momento algum, gratuita e até algumas partes violentas são um pouco cómicas. Ah, e a banda sonora é fantástica!

Antes seque de escrever o que quer que seja, deixo desde já, na primeira linha, o desejo de que outro fanático dos anos 90 encontre este post e sorria, onde quer que o esteja a ler, com um sorriso cúmplice de quem percebe e sente o mesmo.

Não sei explicar porquê, mas sou louca pelos anos 90. Louca é capaz de ser pouquito para descrever, mas escuso de revelar os confins da minha insanidade em público.

Por mais vezes que tente pensar e remoer nisto, nunca chego a lado nenhum que não ao "porque sim". E pronto, é a minha resposta.

É verdade que vive nos ´90s, mas era uma criança e, como tal, nunca segui o movimento grunge, nunca gostei de Nirvana quando o Kurt Cobain era vivo, nunca usei All Stars e nunca vesti aquelas roupas do estilo grunge que eu tanto adoro.

Quando tinha uns 15 anos deu-me a loucura dos Nirvana e aí sim, durante meses e meses, desfrutei da música deles e de tantas outras bandas que não segui na altura. Foi a primeira vez que me senti como se vivesse naquela época. A outra foi aos 18, no primeiro ano de faculdade, por muitas e muitas razões. A terceira foi na semana passada. Bem, não foi bem a mesma coisa. Dessa vez só senti que por lá tinha passado por breves instantes. E foi na H&M. Parece que algumas lojas também estão com a febre dos '90s. E eu não me queixo. Camisas de ganga clara e gasta, de aspecto semi-masculino, leggings floridos, padrões de xadrez, etc. Adorei. Era assim que devia ter-me vestido nessa época. Mesmo sendo criança, sim.

Mas ainda mais marcante para mim é a música. Nem vos consigo descrever o quão emocionada fico com algumas músicas da altura. Algumas porque me lembro de as ouvir no rádio, outras porque evocam toda uma melancolia que associo a esta década. É como se as minhas bandas favoritas tivessem combinado numa reunião-geral incutir umas notas de melancolia saudosista em todas as suas músicas. Só para me dar voltas à cabeça. Thanks a lot.

Já andava com vontade de deitar cá para fora este amor, até agora, não proclamado na blogosfera, pelos anos 90. A par deste acontecimeto, fiz uma playlist dos- adivinharam- anos 90. São músicas que me fazem suspirar por tempos passados, mas não esquecidos. Que descobri recentemente, ou que ouvia no carro quando ia de férias com os papás ou quando o meu pappi me levava todas as manhãs ao Colégio da Paz.

Se não me engano este é o terceiro post que faço sobre cabelos num espaço de duas semanas. O que vale é que são sempre diferentes. Será que estou obcecada? Nahhh.

Era só para me vangloriar de ter aprendido a fazer french braids esta semana. Toda a minha vida (figura de estilo: hipérbole) me questionei acerca da ciência por detrás destas tranças que não são as normais, porque essas sempre soube fazer. Pois é, finalmente descobri. E não vou explicar porque, A- é chato de ler, B- não o sei fazer muito bem e C- é mais fácil se virem vídeos do youtube aka. tutorials, como eu fiz. Foi assim que aprendi.

I just came across a blog (for work, of course) called Rentall that I find worthy of attention.

Rentall allows you to borrow clothes (some of them are very pretty) and accessories.

Long time, no see...
I had been home (in O'Porto) since the end of January and was waiting for my internship to start.
Now I'm back in Lisbon and just started an internship at Máxima (women's magazine). I've only worked there 3 days so far but I can tell it's going to be an amazing experience.

I may be pretty busy now, but when I was home I had little to do and one fine day decided to do one of Michelle Phan's makeup video tutorials.
Those who don't know who she is, you should. She is amazing and if you like makeup you will learn a lot from her.

I love making new discoveries, especially when it comes to music. Today I accidentally discovered a great artist, Marina and the Diamonds. I'm absolutely loving it! Just what I need today. I feel like sharing with you all as well.

Marina and the Diamonds is the stage name of Marina Diamandis, a Greek/Welsh solo artist based in London. Marina releases her debut album The Family Jewels on the 22nd February 2010. Bangs, bangs, bangs!! Damn you, Nicole Richie!

I came across these photos of Nicole Richie sometime this week:

Yes, yes, Nicole is a style icon, her style is impeccable, her clothes are cool, her outifit in these photos is pretty hot, but.... I CAN NOT help but to envy her damn bangs!! I freaking love bangs. I've had bangs as a child, but when I was 11 my hair changed a lot. All of a sudden it went from very straight to wavy and then curly, so I gave up the short bangs as they required a lot of work.
However, I've had a flat iron for a few years and it makes me very, very happy as I can wear my hair curly if I decide not to do anything to it, or straight if I like.

(Suri Cruise totally stole my hairstyle a few years back, by the way).

After viewing those Nicole Richie photos, I started thinking about getting short bangs again. I have long, side-bangs now. I want short ones. Then I googled celebrities with bangs and saw these:

«Australian supermodel Gemma Ward has quit the industry after a series of media reports ridiculing her for gaining weight, reported The Sunday Telegraph.

According to the report Ward, who celebrated her 22nd birthday last week, has revealed via her agent that she does not intend to return to modelling.

She was photographed last week in New York wearing a print jacket, shorts and biker boots and looking more like a healthy young woman and less like an emaciated wraith. Ward had previously been criticised for being too thin in the early part of her career.

The photos were posted by international fashion blogger Bryan Boy and received an number of vicious comments on her new size and shape.

Ward's modelling agency in New York, Viviens, announced that the Australian had no immediate plans to return to the industry. 'Gemma hasn't committed to returning to modelling at any time soon', a spokeman said, adding Ward had the agency's full support.»

In 2007, Ward earned $3 million from her doll-face looks and was ranked by Forbes magazine as the 11th most highly paid model in the world.

I sincerely hope she didn't quit due to the constant remarks about her weight. Some people are just mean and/or have a very distorted notion or reality. The girl is NOT fat. Yes, she has gained weight, but she's still far from being overweight.

Shugo Tokumaru- you'll love him!

I feel extremely generous and altruistic today. I want to share something with everyone.

Las year I accidentally discovered a Japanese artist called Shugo Tokumaru and instantly fell in love with his music. But it wasn't until yesterday that I found his whole discography online. Now, I'm all about buying the actual albums, but these are rare and very hard to find, at least here in Portugal.

And today I will share one of Shugo's albums with whoever finds this blog.

But first, here's a little piece of information on Shugo Tokumaru:

«When it comes to Japanese pop music, it's easy to get stuck in stereotypes.

Nippon pop -- as some call it -- comes in a few varieties: bubblegum, metal, girl bands, and bubbly psychedelia.

Shugo Tokumaru defies all those cliches.

Hello everybody!

Sei que tenho estado ausente, mas tal deve-se ao facto de ter andado mais ocupada do que aquilo que andava durante as férias.

Regressei a Lisboa e às aulas, logo, o tempo livre diminuiu e vai continuar, espero eu. Sim que isto de não fazer nada não é para mim.

Estou a fazer este post para aquelas pessoas que me perguntaram onde comprar os cremes Babaria, dos quais falei neste post.

Eu comprei nas perfumarias Douglas, em particular na Douglas do Parque Nascente (Rio Tinto). Contudo, já os vi em vários Continentes, o que facilita a aquisição destes cremes para muitas pessoas. Se bem me lembro, não estão exactamente na secção dos cremes "normais", mas se não os encontrarem perguntem a um funcionário que eles estão lá algures.

Espero ter sido útil e espero que a vossa pele goste tanto destes produtos como a minha, se bem que, na verdade, ainda prefiro os Avènes e afins; mas para quem quer poupar dinheiro e ainda assim continuar a cuidar bem da pele, Babaria all the way!

Now that I've set up a new goal/resolution- getting a job even though I'm still in college taking my master's degree- I need a more mature (just a little) wardrobe. I don't think I have a "serious" look. And I want to be taken seriously. First impressions are EVERYTHING when you're looking for your (first) job. Like it or not, that's how things work.

I was reading the new issue of Máxima today and came across these pictures. I remember watching these women on the catwalk when I was a little girl and thought they were goddess-like creatures. Apparently they haven't lost they're goddess-like status.

The "old" supermodels do it so much better. The new ones are also great, but lack some confidence at times, it seems.

The fashion industry is changing some of its stereotypes before our eyes. This is a huge breeze of fresh air and a beautiful thing. Of course I'm referring to the fact the models who are almost 40 years old are still working, still booking jobs, still making it work and showing all the young bitches how its REALLY done. ;)

Lindsay Lohan, the new artistic adviser for Ungaro?!

According to Page Six, Lindsay Lohan signed a contract with the House of Emanuel Ungaro. Rumour has it that Lindsay will become the new artistic adviser to the brand, which means she will be getting half of the credit for whatever the house churns out.

This decision is not pleasing everyone at the House of Ungaro as the brand's CEO, Esteban Cortazar, has threatened to leave if this Lindsay rumour turns out true..

Ungaro reps haven't confirmed anything yet, so we'll just have to wait.

Hasw anyone else noticed that recently more and more brunette celebrities are going blonde? Once I read that no hair color will ever look as good on you as your natural one. It makes sense.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for change! In fact, I've been through a couple of hair makeovers myself.

However some of these ladies made, in my humble opinion, a very poor choice.

I'd love to know what you think.

Kim Kardashian:

Kim is known for being a brunette bombshell. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous. Always. She is also of Armenian descent, so to picture a blonde Kim K used to be pretty ridiculous because of her dark features. I have to say I don't loathe her blonde hair, but she looks a trillion times better as a brunette. Why? Because the dark hair is her edge. She stands out for not being the common all-America girl. As a blonde, she looks to ordinary.

My oh my. I love love love this girl. She's so beautiful and I've always envied her red locks. That shade of red- her natural color- is truly rare. I've seen plenty of redhaired people before and the usual color is the more orangy one, so the fire red is stunning.

Linds, why insist on going blonde? It does NOT suit you and does not do your beauty any justice.

PT: Isto de crescer e ganhar (alguma) maturidade tem os seus benefícios. Um deles é arriscar mais e perder alguns preconceitos no que diz respeito a roupa, calçado e acessórios. Por exemplo,

lembro-me perfeitamente de, algures nos anos 90, quando era pequena, existir uma ideia fixa acerca dos padrões animal. A opinião geral é que só senhoras "pipis" e pirosas é que os usavam. E eu cresci a ouvir isto, mas, entretanto, e sem esforço nenhum, esta opinião que não era a minha, desenraizou-se e hoje gosto imenso de padrões-animal na roupa, leggings, etc.

Lembro-me também de várias outras vítimas de semelhantes críticas, sendo um bom exemplo as lantejoulas. Eu própria nunca fui grande fã, mas também aprendi a gostar. foi algo bem mais recente esta mudança de opinião.

For example: When I was a little girl, somewhere in the 90's, there was this general idea that animal prints were horribly tacky and worn only by snobby, tacky middle-aged women. Eventually it started sinking in. However, not that long ago, I let go of this total BS opinion that wasn't mine at all and today I love animal prints.

Another subject to this kind of fashion prejudice- as I was growing up- were the sequins, of which I've never been a fan. Until now.

Here's a celebrity that usually flies under my radar. While I don't think she's a great actress, I really like her sense of style. She always looks effortlessly put together and her dresses for red carpet events and premieres.

I love this outfit. A girly, romantic short dress paired with a thin black belt and black boots. Interesting choice of footwear btw; it brings some toughness to the outfit; it's something unexpected, a little "rock-and-roll-ish".

Veredict: loves it.

Depois de muitos e muitos meses a resistir, eis que me converti finalmente à Gossip Girl. Rendi-me irreversivelmente à série. Os actores são óptimos, a história deixa o espectador preso e angustiado até ao próximo episódio. É suposto ser assim. Quer dizer que está bem feito. Há quem goste e há que não goste mesmo nada da série, mas têm que admitir pelo menos três coisas:

1- os actores são realmente bons;

2- a série está bem feita;

3- a série vale a pena só pelo wardrobe dos personagens.

Vou fazer uma série de posts sobre o estilo pessoal de cada personagem feminina (das principais, claro). Vale mesmo a pena. E vou começar pela minha personagem favorita, aquela que me calha sempre que faço um quiz do facebook com o título "Which Gossip Girl characterare you?"-----> Blair Waldorf!!
